Volkswagen Group shortly VW AG, is a German multinational automotive manufacturing company headquartered in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. There are many Car Companies Owned By Volkswagen Group. It designs, manufactures and distributes passenger and commercial vehicles, motorcycles, engines, and turbomachinery and offers related services including financing, leasing and fleet management.

Volkswagen brands list consist of approximately 340 subsidiary companies but today we will be looking at 8 car companies owned by Volkswagen Group

1) Audi

Audi - Volkswagen Owned Company

Audi AG is a German automobile manufacturer that designs, engineers, produces, markets and distributes luxury vehicles. In 1960, Audi was acquired by Volkswagen and since then Audi has become one of best-selling luxury automobiles in the world. As of now Volkswagen Group owns 99.55% share of the luxury car Audi.

2) Porsche AG

Porsche - Volkswagen owned company

Porsche  is a German automobile manufacturer specializing in high-performance sports cars, SUVs and sedans. Volkswagen

Porsche SE and Porsche AG are 2 different companies. SE is the majority shareholder in VW, but AG is the one that makes cars. When you consider this difference, you see how can VW become the owner – they became the owner of Porsche AG, not the Porsche SE.

Volkswagen group owns Porsche AG, not Porsche SE. Porsche SE is a German holding company with investments in the automotive industry. While Porsche AG was created for the car manufacturing business(which is owned by Volkswagen Group).

Porsche SE owns 52% shares of Volkswagen Group. This structure will help them transfer profits & losses around the books. 

3) Lamborghini

Lamborghini - Volkswagen owned company

Lamborghini is an Italian brand and manufacturer of luxury sports cars and SUVs based in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy. The sports car company is owned by the Volkswagen Group through its subsidiary Audi. In 1998, Mycom Setdco and V’Power sold Lamborghini to the VW Group where it was placed under the control of the group’s Audi division.

4) Skoda

Skoda - Volkswagen owned company

Škoda, is a Czech automobile manufacturer founded in 1895 as Laurin & Klement. It is headquartered in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. In 2000 Škoda became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group.

5) Bugatti

Bugatti - Volkswagen owned company

Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. is a French high-performance luxury automobiles manufacturer and a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG. Volkswagen purchased the rights to produce cars under the Bugatti Brand in June, 1998.

6) Seat

Seat - Volkswagen owned company

SEAT is a Spanish automobile manufacturer with its head office in Martorell, Spain. It is wholly owned subsidiary of the German Volkswagen Group. After the withdrawal of Fiat from SEAT it was Volkswagen that grabbed the opportunity and signed the partnership agreement with SEAT. On December 18, 1990, the Volkswagen Group acquired 99.99% ownership of the company, thus making SEAT the first non-German wholly owned subsidiary of the Group

7)Bentley

Bentley - Volkswagen owned company

Bentley Motors Limited is a British company that designs, develops, and manufactures luxury motorcars which are largely hand-built. It is a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG which means VW owns more than 50% shares of Bentley Motos Limited.

8) Volkswagen

Volkswagen is a German automaker founded in 4 January 1937 by the German Labour Front, headquartered in Wolfsburg, Germany. It is the flagship brand of the Volkswagen Group and is the largest automaker worldwide currently.

Car Companies Owned By Volkswagen Group

Apart from the car companies owned by Volkswagen Group they also sells motorcycles under the Ducati brand; and commercial vehicles under the marques MAN, Scania, Neoplan and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

After the emission scandal, Volkswagen stock price drop substantially and they are still trying to recover from that.

In 2015, Volkswagen admitted that it had installed pollution-cheating software in many of its cars to fool regulators that its cars met emissions standards when in fact they polluted at much higher levels than government standards.
